Description
(Xi Qian), also known as “过路钱” (Guo Lu Qian) or “开路钱” (Kai Lu Qian), is primarily used to ensure the smooth passage of wandering souls, helping them avoid earthly entanglements. This joss paper, referred to as KaiCin in Cantonese, is considered a common currency in the Netherworld, with each piece representing three ancient coins due to its circular shape.
Typically utilized in rituals to “open the way for the deceased,” Xi Qian is burned as a form of “buying road money.” While it holds a lower status among paper offerings, similar to small change, it plays an essential role in ancestral worship. Please burn this paper rather than throwing it into the air
